My school is closing.  Oldest, operational two-room school house in the country. CLOSING.

And then, because the knife wasn't blindlingly painful - TAXES RUIN ME.

I have $10 to my name... until April 23rd.

AHAHAHAHAHA... HA... ha... ha........

It's cool.  Best 2009 ever.

My apartment is 55 degrees. -24 degree weather is so great.  LOVE.  I need to go out and buy that special plastic for windows.  Everytime I stand near one, wafts of frigid tundra air hit.  I'm wearing a t-shirt, long-sleeve, sweater and hoodie.  For the third day in a row.  It's awesome how I can unwind from work in the comfort of my own home....  whine, whine, lament, etc.

I had my first grad class tonight and it was AMAZING.  Way over my head and told at the speed of light, but amazing.  I can't wait for the next one and have already signed up for an additional 1-credit course with the same instructor.  4 credits won't be bad, and the stuff she's teaching, I'll be using in my classroom.  I'm so jazzed right now I can't stand it.  I forgot how much I love school.  Forgot how fun it is taking notes, organzing binders, using highlighters and post-its... ahhhh... I missed it all!  Obviously, I'm a huge dork and don't care one bit.  ::revels::

UGH. Driving to and from work was HORRIBLE. Went 25mph the whole way.  I have to drive through something called "The Gulf" everyday which is basically the most winding, death-curve road you can imagine.  Think of it covered in freezing slush and that was my commute.  Very unhappy with the downturn of weather this week, and I have no idea how I'll get home tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with the parents.  Please let the highway be sanded thick as a beach  ::fingers crossed::.

Funny! [Nov. 16th, 2008|11:35 am]

My last name is "Barber" and my brother works down in Washington D.C.. He served as an intern in Obama's senator office and later, on his campaign. I typed my brother's name into Google today just to see if there was any news on him about getting some kind of entry-level position on Obama's permanent staff.

What I found....Collapse )

I've started cooking! Wonder of wonders! Went grocery shopping and had loads of fun stocking up on things I never buy (like olive oil). Aaaannd... I'M DOING THE DISHES RIGHT AFTER. Holy sweet jesus. It's crazy times in my apartment =P.

In other good news, I went out again last Saturday with Allison and NOTHING WAS STOLEN OFF MY CAR! Is this my week or what? I'm so pleased. Course... I didn't park overnight in an alley this time... but STILL. Very cool. Will probably go out this weekend and try my luck again ::beams::.

Caved like my friend Allison's roof last winter. Will restart on Monday.  Why not today?  Because I'm so cranky and full of failure I could bite someone's head off and chew on the bloody stump.  Yeah, it's like that.

I've decided to quit smoking.  Started yesterday at 7am.  Am dying.

Went up to my friend's camp for the weekend.  AMAZING time.  Lots of beer, great food and karaoke =P.  Met a new Jen, who was super cool, down to earth and extremely funny.  We all had a great time chilling, walking in the woods and talking about whatever.  All four of us used to work at the same middle school as IA's and we reveled in our bottom-of-the-bottom status in education.  It was an absolute blast.

And then when I got home, because today was insanely beautiful, sunny and warm... I CLEANED MY CAR.  It was two hours of throwing out old papers and unearthing coffee cups from under the seats, but wow.  I feel like I could climb a mountain right now.

Darkened so often before [Oct. 24th, 2008|08:46 am]

I went up to Burlington to get my headlight fixed and ended up spending $700 in repairs.  Apparently, I've been driving around with my rear brakes locked and three milimeters left on my front brake pads.  Three of my four struts were blown or leaking and my air filter hadn't been cleaned in two years.  Bad news bears.  Of course I learned this after I decided to do a 90,000 service, cause winter's coming and I wanted to make sure my transmission got attention.  So the garage called, after 95% of the service was done, and told me how much my car hates me.  I got the rear brakes fixed and they said my front brakes and struts should last another three thousand miles or so.

AGH!  Here I was, putting moola in my savings and being all pleased with myself.  Damnit.

Major sad times.
